Marvel Comics / Fireside Books, 1978
Jack Kirby (1917-1994) and Joe Sinnott (1926-2020)
India ink on Bristol board.
Galactus's ship approaching a planet.
Jack Kirby, co-creator of the Fantastic Four, Thor, and Captain America, revisited the Silver Surfer in 1978-a character he had conceived in 1966. The inking is by Joe Sinnott, his longtime collaborator, whose precision highlights Kirby's artwork.
This panel encapsulates what makes Kirby's cosmic stories so unique: Galactus's ship, the famous "Kirby dots" that bring space to life, and a close-up of Galactus projecting a mental probe toward Earth through his eyes.
This volume marks the final collaboration between Stan Lee and Jack Kirby on the Silver Surfer.
Kirby's storyboards featuring the Silver Surfer are rare.
