La Foire aux Immortels - Dargaud 1980

Original plate number 52 in Indian ink and acrylic on paper from *La Foire aux Immortels*, a story first published in January 1980 in *Pilote* magazine, issue 68, and published in July 1980 by Dargaud, marking the first instalment of the legendary *Nikopol Trilogy*. This continuation of plate 51 uses the same colour palette and continues the plot in which the three election candidates are introduced by Pope Théodule the First, who is seen beginning his prayer whilst levitating, accompanied by little cherubs who are in fact parasitic extraterrestrial creatures acting as absurd and cynical symbols of the regime; this diptych of plates parodies religious iconography for the purposes of political manipulation.
Signed in the bottom right-hand corner; Enki Bilal will provide a dedication to the purchaser.
