Production celluloid in Indian ink and acrylic, with a background matching the respective genga and layout of Captain Ahab, the series’ protagonist and a reinterpretation of the character from Herman Melville’s novel; indeed, in the novel Captain Ahab is monomaniacal, sombre and destructive; in this animated adaptation, he displays humour and honour, and feels a deep attachment to his crew.
Three layers of celluloid, one of which is painted directly with gouache and is used for the background details.
