On Thursday, November 7, 2019, PIASA’s 10th African Contemporary Art Sale totalled more than 1.43 million euros, thus doubling its estimate.
Punctuated by very nice auctions, especially for the works of the Cameroonian Marc Padeu and the Ugandan Joseph Ntensibe, this vacation has aroused a real interest from both French and international collectors.
The very good results of this vacation, barely six months after those of the sale of May 15, 2019, consolidate the positioning of PIASA in a market of contemporary African art more than ever in full expansion.
This sale allowed the establishment of three new records for public sale for the artists Marc Padeu, Joseph Ntensibe and Barthélémy Toguo
Far above their estimate of between 5,000 and 8,000 euros, the two works of Cameroonian artist Marc Padeu have reached 195,000 euros each. The king is dead and Voici l'homme! are emblematic of the artist’s work reinvesting Christian iconography and the aesthetics of the Renaissance. This result sets a new record for this artist.
