On Wednesday, February 15th, PIASA will have the honor of organizing a sale of the photography collection of gallery owners René-Julien and Bruno Praz-Delavallade.
This sale, "photographs from one collection," is a remarkable testimony to the photographic creation of the past century and beyond. The selection opens with an 1887 phototype by Eadweard Muybridge that prefigures the extraordinary artistic potential of this medium. This is followed by a series of historic photographs by Raoul Hausmann, Robert Doisneau, Berenice Abbott, Willy Ronis, Man Ray, Brassaï, Hans Bellmer, and Sabine Weiss, talents who would set the pace for the history of art photography in the first half of the 20th century.

The human form often stands out in this collection, with works by photographers who are masters of the genre, such as Nan Goldin, Pierre Molinier, Robert Mapplethorpe, Wolfgang Tillmans, and Zanele Muholi. The selection also includes more conceptual photographs by artists including Anna & Bernhard Blume, Ed Ruscha, Matthias Herrmann, Zoe Leonard, Carsten Höller, Philippe Parreno, and John Baldessari. In the same way, testimonies on unique themes - Zoe Leonard, Jean-Marc Bustamante, Elina Brotheurs, Roderick Buchanan, and John Miller - come to make sense in this need to break out of simply one stylistic doctrine.
