A historic rediscovery: Cartier’s Chinese-inspired Art Deco vanity set (1928)
One of the highlights of this auction is undoubtedly the presentation of a Chinese-inspired Art Deco vanity set by Cartier Paris, dated 1928. A true technical and artistic feat requiring up to 900 hours of meticulous craftsmanship, this precious yellow gold vanity case is adorned with an antique carved jadeite element, ‘mille-raies’ enamelling of the utmost finesse, and a push-button set with a sugar-loaf cabochon emerald.
This piece possesses exceptional museum-quality status: it is only the third box of this model to appear on the global market, virtually identical to the two unique examples recorded in Cartier Paris’s stock registers between 1927 and 1928. A masterpiece of absolute rarity (estimate: €28,000 / €45,000).
