On Thursday June 1st, PIASA is holding a design auction inspired by the spirit of Japan, curated by Marie Kalt and Aurore Lameyre.
This sale, curated by Marie Kalt and Aurore Lameyre, takes the spirit of Japan as its common thread and weaves together pieces that go beyond the Japanese design scene to signify a real trend. If the thirty or so ceramics made between the 6th and 20th centuries (from the same collection) serve as a marker, the curation work on this sale has made it possible to bring together pieces by designers who develop a sensitivity close to the Japanese state of mind. In other words, a particular attention to the beautiful material, the requirement of the drawing, the craftsmanship ... The list of designers is as rich as it is unexpected, bringing together historical figures such as Kenzo Tange, Kenji Fujimori, and Isamu Noguchi, alongside contemporary designers such as Sebastian Herkner, Eric Schmitt, Garnier & Linker, José Lévy, and more.

"The choice of objects offered in this sale is deliberately eclectic: a screen from the Edo period is next to an armchair in bronze and lacquered wood by Eric Schmitt, the storage units with vitaminized colors by Shigeru Uchida bring out the material effects of the enameled stoneware panels by Armelle Benoit. This choice of unexpected associations, of unusual face-to-face encounters, invites us to invent new decorative agreements that bring a real singularity to today's interiors."
