Note : This is a modernist rereading of the well known Fontainebleau school portrait of Gabrielle d'Estree and her sister, the Duchesse de Villars. Here, the subject is reduced to a snapshot image of leisure society, itself concealed by the differentiated treatment of color in grids and large horizontal planes.
