Note: In 1976, Dado collaborated with Georges Perec for the publication of "Alphabets", a collection of 176 eleven-line poems by Perec published by Editions Galilee (Michel Delorme). Dado illustrated this edition with 21 India ink drawings and one black engraving.
Dado later reworked these drawings in color for a second edition, published in 1985. The work presented here is one of those pieces?an original drawing executed by Dado for page 148 of the second edition of "Alphabets" (a watercolor adaptation of the original drawing for page 75 of the first edition).
Furthermore, Dado discusses his collaboration with Perec in "Portraits en fragments" (interviews conducted by Christian Derouet, 1981-1988 ; Strasbourg, Editions L'Atelier contemporain, 2023, p. 112).
