Since the early 1980s, the work of Israeli architect and designer Ron Arad has been celebrated around the world. Ron Arad initially trained with the French-Swiss architect Bernard Tschumi (born in 1944).
His studies at the Jerusalem Academy of Art in Israel and then at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London enabled him to take up the History of Architecture. Hardly out of the benches of these prestigious schools, the young man came close to Zaha Hadid (1950-2016).
Ron Arad - between architecture, design and plastic arts - has managed since the early 1980s to develop an aesthetic of sinuosity. The forms that his imagination creates blossom into the space with the assurance of a dancer. The artist is a choreographer. His student? The material! Whether they are produced as unique pieces, in limited series or in industrial production, his creations are distinguished by sinusoidal, elliptical or ovoid shapes obtained by working on materials, generally plastic, polished steel or aluminium.

The Fly on the wall piece, also published in twenty copies, is distinguished by the use of mirrors affixed to steel plates. The use of mirrors has revolutionised perspective reflexes and was already present at the end of the 1980s, with coins such as Double Big Easy, a sofa that sold for €78,000 at the "Le style AD" sale organised in partnership with the magazine.

Only 6 copies of the "London Papardelle - N° 3/6" armchair were published, made of patinated bronze. The rigidity of the material is here largely challenged by the freedom of form. Emblematic of Ron Arad's playful relationship with the materials he is used to choosing, this piece was purchased for more than 80,000 euros.

For the designer, 2008 is the year of consecration. In addition to an ambitious retrospective ("No Discipline") organized by the National Museum of Modern Art in Paris and the publication of a book on his work, Ron Arad signed his first building: the Holon Design Museum in the suburbs of Tel Aviv.
Playing with large openings cut out of the sky, the route - logically sinuous - directs the visitor both inwards and outwards. Twenty years earlier, in 1988, still in the city where he was born in 1951, he had won the competition for the design of the Opera House foyer.
