Belgian Art & Northern Schools – 2:00 PM
On June 18, PIASA will offer a selection of works from the collection of the Swiss dealer and collector Hans Liechti, who played a significant role in the history of the post-war Belgian avant-garde. A small chapter of 1960s modernity, primarily Flemish, resurfaces through works coming from both his personal collection and the archives of Galerie Bernard, which he founded in Granges in 1959. These include pieces signed by, among others, Jef Verheyen, Englebert Van Anderlecht, Guy Vandenbranden, Mark Verstockt, Guy Mees, Bram Bogart, Paul Van Hoeydonck, Vic Gentils, Roger Raveel, and Walter Leblanc.
In addition to this remarkable collection, the PIASA auction features a fine selection of Belgian artists. Highlights include the impressive gold jewelry piece by Pol Bury, Tiges dans deux formes courbes refermées dating from 1968, a historic work by Karel Appel created in Paris in 1986, and a beautiful canvas by the powerful yet discreet Thierry de Cordier, formerly in the Claude Berri collection. In a more classical style, one cannot miss Calvaire au Golgotha, a large 1912 drawing bathed in a twilight light, signed by Léon Spilliaert.

Design – 5:00 PM
For this Brussels auction dedicated to design, PIASA honors the leading names in international design while also highlighting Belgian designers.
Around sixty Belgian works have been gathered, ranging from Gustave Serrurier-Bovy to Maarten Van Severen. You will discover a beautiful collection of ceramics by Pierre Culot, featuring a large sculpture titled Chapiteau; desks and tables by Jules Wabbes, including a round end-grain wood table with a bronze tulip base; lighting by Christophe Gevers; and rare furniture pieces by Willy Van Der Meeren and Emiel Veranneman. The centerpiece of this Belgian selection is undoubtedly the spectacular 1970 illuminated agate and carnelian table by Ado Chale (lot 220).
On the international side, the auction brings together a fine selection of 1950s French furniture by Charlotte Perriand, Jean Prouvé, and Pierre Jeanneret, notably the latter's large teak Library table (lot 278). Also featured are an exceptional smoker's stand by Pierre Chareau, and select lamps and sconces by Serge Mouille. Italian design also holds a prominent place in this sale. You will discover beautiful pairs of armchairs by Gio Ponti, including a rare model in red velvet and walnut (lot 292), as well as remarkable lighting pieces, such as a thick-glass pendant lamp by Max Ingrand for Fontana Arte (lot 330). From the American scene, tables and desks by George Nakashima stand out, while the Latin American section features iconic furniture by Joaquim Tenreiro, Sergio Rodrigues, and a pair of Alta lounge chairs by Oscar Niemeyer. You will also find great classics of Scandinavian design, with furniture by Poul Kjærholm, Hans Wegner, and Finn Juhl.
