Pierre Bonnefille : the master of textures

13 June 2020

As part of the "AD Style " salle, celebrating the partnership between the famous magazine and PIASA auction house on Wednesday June,17, 2020, the design department is presenting a selection of pieces by some of the most emblematic designers of the second half of the 20th century, including the creator Pierre Bonnefille represented with five lots.

Following initial training at the École Boulle and then at the Decorative Arts, the designer set up his own workshop in 1995.
The artistic trajectory of this designer is distinguished by his transdisciplinarity. While the first years were marked by cabinet making, wood sculpture and furniture design, he quickly began to think about interior architecture.

Influenced by the richness and diversity of the textures he works with, Pierre Bonnefille draws on the natural forms of the plant world and his travels to forge his own plastic vocabulary. His coatings are generally composed of mineral pigments, glue but also sand. Following a know-how of great technical quality, he can wax them, sand them or even enhance them with gold or copper leaves. Appointed Master of Art in 2010, he also devoted himself to calligraphy.

His "Bronze Paintings", a series of paintings made of materials made of bronze powders, reflect the inventiveness of their author and his taste for abstraction.
