In partnership with the Italian auction house Wannenes, PIASA is organising two auction sessions dedicated to 20th century Italian design on Tuesday November 9th.
The first sale (160 lots) will focus on the work of Italian designers from the mid-20th century (Gio Ponti, Osvaldo Borsani, Paolo Portoghesi, Mario Gottardi, etc.), with objects that are still very much influenced by the heritage of the decorative arts, while the second sale, which is completely new to PIASA, will be devoted to a collection of furnishing textiles from the JSA art factory.
It includes 115 lots of fabrics designed by Lucio Fontana, Gio Ponti, Roberto Crippa, Gio Pomodoro and others.
PIASA has teamed up with the auction house Wannenes to organise this two-part sale dedicated to 20th century Italian design. Founded in Genoa in 2001, but also established in Rome, Milan and Monte-Carlo, this Italian auction house has extensive networks in the peninsula, which have allowed it to bring a real singularity to the composition of the catalogues.
Thus, the first session includes, in addition to pieces by figures such as Gio Ponti, Carlo Scarpa, Osvaldo Borsani, etc., many objects designed by lesser-known designers from the Italian scene from the 1940s to the 1970s. The catalogue includes names such as Paolo Portoghesi, Mario Gottardi, Gustavo Pulitzer-Finali, Attilio and Ernesto Lapadula, Luigi Scremin, Ernesto Basile and Piero Bottoni, whose work has not yet been widely seen on the French market, but whose pieces have nothing to envy to those of the "stars" of the market.
