29 May 2022

Révélations - International Biennial of Crafts and Creation welcomes PIASA for an exceptional auction at the Grand Palais Éphémère on Friday, June 10, 2022 at 5pm.

Some 100 works - most of them unique - reflecting the richness of contemporary creation have been selected by PIASA from among the artists exhibited at the Biennial and will be offered for auction.

Zizipho Poswa (Born in 1979)
Umthwalo - iBhelekazi, 2021
Pièce unique - Sculpture

Estimate: 18 000 / 25 000 €

Native of the town of Mthatha, a bastion of Xhosa culture in eastern South Africa, Zizipho Poswa lives and works in Cape Town where she has set up her studio. Combining her mastery of ancestral terracotta techniques with the modernity of her vision, she celebrates the shapes and colours of her heritage by designing objects for collection and interior design, as well as sculptures. A mysterious and vibrant energy surrounds the artist's works, which are an ode to African femininity, a tribute to her Xhosa roots and to the women in her life, praising their strength and resilience. Zizipho Poswa has her signature, pinching, visible on most of her work.

Brendan Ravenhill (20th c.) for Maison Intègre (ed.)
Echo, 2021 - Table lamp
Estimate: 7 000 / 9 000 €

Born in the Ivory Coast, Brendan Ravenhill studied sculpture at Oberlin College, Ohio and industrial design at the Rhode Island School of Design. He moved to Los Angeles in 2011 where he founded his Studio to create meaningful products, beyond aesthetics and trend. Recent projects include the 10×10 Tea Room built in 2015-16, the Sea Sauna, a cedar shingle sauna built on a float during the 2020 pandemic, and the historic renovation of the Blue Duck, a National Park Service building in Islesford, Maine.

Ghizlane Sahli (Born in 1973)
La mer(e) origine du monde, 2020
Estimate: 8 000 / 12 000 €

After studying architecture in Paris, the artist Ghizlane Sahli, originally from Meknes and based in Marrakech, turned to fashion design, before becoming more interested in embroidery, which she learned from Moroccan craftswomen. The Moroccan embroidery and weaving tradition is her inspiration when she transforms recycled materials into installations with relief and roughness. In her work, the artist uses silk thread, wool, plastic or metal. By collecting materials, the artist brings us into a poetic and mysterious universe, where fantasy takes over reality and guides interpretations. The vibrating honeycombs of her works are like connected hearts beating in harmony.

Lison de Caunes (Born in 1948)
Pair of coffee tables, 2017
Estimate: 18 000 / 25 000 €

After studying at the Central Union of Decorative Arts, Lison de Caunes devoted herself to the art of straw marquetry, perpetuating the family tradition of her grandfather, the decorator André Groult. As an expert in this technique, she rehabilitates these poetic practices by restoring furniture and objects from the 17th century to the Art Deco period. She creates commissioned furniture, home accessories and wall panels for decorators and interior designers.
