Our Italian Design sale on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 will feature a selection of around thirty pieces by the master glassmaker, artist and inventor Max Ingrand, who devoted his entire life to mastering the "strange powers" of glass.

After discovering the stained glass windows of the Chartres Cathedral, he became passionate about glass at a very young age. He then studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and specialized himself in decorative arts under the direction of the glassmaker Jacques Gruber and the architect Charles Lemaresquier. Max Ingrand works with this material in a remarkable way, and through his creations, he wishes to celebrate light.

Dahlia
Ceiling lamp
Estimate: 30 000 - 40 000 €
His production and the styles of his creations are very varied. Thus, he designs both very refined pieces playing on the transparency of glass, such as the pair of wall lights model No. 1598, as well as very colorful pieces such as the chandelier Model No. 2411 in tinted glass, or the mirror in colored glass and frosted blue glass edition Fontana Arte.
Lot 175 - Max Ingrand (1908-1969)
Miroir
Estimation : 15 000 - 20 000 €
Considered to be an Art Deco figure, he collaborates with many design figures such as Jules Leleu, André Arbus, Marc du Plantier and Gilbert Poillerat, with whom he wishes to "dress the light".
Artistic director of Fontana Arte for more than a decade from 1954, he produced several pieces that became iconic, such as the white opal table lamp model n°2260, designed in 1954 and presented at this sale. Max Ingrand plays with materials and boldly combines technology and form.

"... A secret material, difficult to work with but so noble and precious, glass seems to be the ideal complement to light, the one in which it plays by transmitting and reflecting itself, it is a perfect association" says Max Ingrand, who, in addition to decorative objects, also manufactures throughout his career numerous stained glass windows for public places, religious institutions and hotels.
