PIASA will organize from December 11, 2018 to January 11, 2017, a sales exhibition dedicated to two artists from the African continent: Abu Traoré from Burkina Faso and Raymon Tsham from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Abu Traoré
Abou Traoré was born in 1960 in Bobo-Dioulasso in Burkina Faso, then Upper Volta. In his work as a sculptor, he goes beyond the automatisms of local craftsmanship to question and expand his practice of bronzing in the direction of artistic creation. His work is based on research into the Bobo tradition of masks made from animal forms and modern and contemporary syncretism. Through his work, he seeks to ease tensions and recall the values of living together.
Raymond Tsham
Raymond Tsham Mateng was born in 1963 in Lubunz, in the Kasai Oriental (DRC). He lives in Kinshasa. Tsham draws almost exclusively with a ballpoint pen masks and statuettes from Congo and elsewhere with infinite precision. He poses as an ambassador of the early arts, and looks with great sympathy and gratitude at the approach of Matisse, Picasso or Brancusi who were inspired by primitive African art.
Round table "Artistic creation in Kinshasa"
On the occasion of the opening of the exhibition, Piasa will organize on December 11 at 6:00 p.m., a round table to present the film "System K as Kinshasa" in the presence of director Renaud Barret and artist Freddy Tsimba whose sculpture will be inaugurated at the Palais de Chaillot on the occasion of the opening evening of the 70th anniversary of the Annual Declaration of Human Rights.
K system like Kinshasa
In the midst of indescribable social and political chaos, a vibrant art scene created in
from scratch and dreams of recognition.
Despite the harassment of the authorities and the personal difficulties of the artists, the movement invaded the street and could no longer be stopped.
