On Wednesday, February 20, PIASA will open the 2019 auction season with its first "Scandinavian Design" auction. These events, which have become a must, are always a new opportunity for all enthusiasts to rediscover Nordic design through themed sales. This new opus will focus on the beginnings of Scandinavian design. The selection of furniture and lighting offered for sale will be an opportunity to discover the work of the creators who, during the first half of the 20th century, through the inventiveness of shapes and the choice of materials, have entered the field of design as we know it today. Far from manufactured production, these pieces, now iconic, like a manifesto, have paved the way for a whole generation of designers.
The sale of Eliel Saarinen's furniture, special orders from the National Board of Railways (Helsinki, Finland), including a table, will be presented.

Among the highlights of the sale was the "Snowflake" suspension in brass and gold metal by Paavo Tynel. The light source of this suspension consists of four bulbs hidden in the perforated base. "Snowflakes" float on wires connected to elongated arms allowing an original diffusion of light. This luminaire is therefore a very representative piece of Tynell's creations, many of which echo the forms of nature.

The "Hunting chair" series is inspired by the construction of medieval Spanish furniture that Mogensen never stopped producing.
