The AD Style, Signature 70's II

The AD Style auction on Thursday 25th April organized by PIASA in partnership with AD magazine, will be an opportunity to present to collectors a rigorous selection of design pieces signed by the greatest names  of the 1970s, such as Armand Jonckers, Philippe Hiquily and Willy Rizzo.



Armand Jonckers
(Born 1939)
Sculptor, antique dealer, mineralogist, the Belgian Armand Jonckers is best known for his baroque furniture, the result of recycling old materials and objects, including Art Deco pieces. While he works with wood more than metal, the artist does not shy away from gold and shine. In the 1970s, he designed palace decorations in Saudi Arabia and  Parisian nightclubs.

Philippe Hiquily (1925-2013)
French sculptor and designer Philippe Hiquily is famous for his work on metal. His sculpture is characterized by smooth surfaces counterbalanced by elements borrowed from nature - antennas, insect legs, feminine curves. From 1960  the artist began to develop furniture that become a real extension of his artistic works. Between abstraction and surrealism, his metal sculpture furniture immediately lure interest of clients such as Marie-Laure de Noailles or the decorator Henri Samuel.

Willy Rizzo (1928-2013)
Designer, artistic director, photographer, Willy Rizzo began his career in Paris where he photographed stars. He collaborates with Paris Match and becomes a star in his field. In 1959, he became Marie-Claire's artistic director and worked with the biggest fashion magazines, including Vogue. He moved to Rome in 1968 where he became a freelance designer. In the late 1970s, the dark years and the decline of Cinecittà put an end to its Roman era. The party's over. Willy sells his business and moves back to Paris which he had long missed.

Pia Manu
Belgian artist associated with Flemish brutalism, Pia Manu worked in his Ingelmunster studio from the 1950s to the 1980s. He created pieces with primitive shapes, animated by a textured work mixing bronze, slate, copper, resin and ceramics. These materials, sometimes punctuated by semi-precious stones, animate the surfaces of coffee tables, bas-reliefs, fireplaces and abstract sculptures.
