The AD style, graphic spirit I

On the occasion of the "Le Style AD" sale which will take place on Thursday 25 April 2019, PIASA will showcase several designers with a graphic style through limited edition furniture pieces, prototypes and high quality creations.


Martine Bedin (Born in 1957)
As a designer, Martine Bedin stands out for her mischievous and poetic design. Born in France, she moved to Italy to study architecture. In 1980 she met Ettore Sottsas with whom she collaborated. They both joined other designers and founded the avant-garde movement Memphis, which ended in 1989. Martine Bedin then taught in several schools. While she initially created for the industry, since 1991 she has been focusing on the creation of unique furniture  pieces.

Christian Biecher (Born in 1963)
Revealed in the early 1990s as a designer, even if he has an DPLG architect formation, Christian Biecher is at the crossroads of several disciplines: urban planning, architecture and furniture design, which he has been considering since 2010 in a global approach. With broken lines, solid colours and fluid constructions, he designs dynamic spaces and furniture. He has designed objects and furniture for many brands around the world as well as for the Mouvements Modernes, Cat-Berro and Manufacture de Sèvres galleries. Today, his agency mainly develops various programs for hotels, housing and equipment. It focuses particularly on forms of innovation in use and sustainable development in its environmental, social and economic components.

Lison de Caunes (Born in 1948)
Creator of marquetry, Lison de Caunes has been working with straw for almost forty years. Following in the footsteps of her grandfather André Groult, decorator-engineer who popularized this craft during the Art Deco period, she continues a family tradition surrounded by her sister, her daughter and a workshop of ten people. If she learned her profession through restoration, she now creates wall panels, furniture and precious objects. It sometimes associates rye straw with mother-of-pearl, gold leaf or metal.

Fabrizio Casiraghi (Born in 1986)
A decorator, but with an architect and urban planner formation, Dominique Perrault assisted, this Paris-based Italian worked for a while at Dimorestudio before opening his own agency in 2015. He has since built private residences such as restaurants and shops. Well chosen antiques, vibrant colours, objects of curiosity and exotic touches give a dreamlike charm to his creations.

India Mahdavi (Born in 1962)
Interior architect and designer, India Mahdavi makes colours vibrate. Since her debut in 1999, this Parisian of Iranian origin has skillfully handled dissonant tonalities. She also has fun telescoping patterns and clanging graphics to shake up habits and enchant everyday life. In parallel with her decoration projects, she has been publishing a line of furniture bearing her name since 2003.
