After studying at the Milan Polytechnic, Gio Ponto began his career in the manufacture of art ceramics. In 1927, he opened his first studio with Emilio Lancia where he merged architecture, decoration and design. Shortly afterwards, he founded the magazine DOMUS, which highlighted the Novecento and neoclassical style, which he particularly liked. It is this style that he will promote at the Milan Triennial, where he will later join the Executive Committee.
At the same time, his collaboration with decorators and designers such as Lio Carminati began, with whom he designed, among other things, a game table in 1942.

In the 1950s, two of his most iconic creations were designed: Milan's Pirelli Tower, built with the engineer Pier Luigi Nerviou, and the Legerra chair model, which became a design icon. "The more minimal the form, the more expressive it becomes," says Ponti. During his career, Gio Ponti has built more than a hundred buildings all over the world and has designed a considerable number of decorative art objects and furniture. Among the most famous pieces we could mention the desk in walnut and brass braid Giordano Chiesa edition or the chair series model No. 969.
