When Christian Liaigre inaugurated his first address on rue de Varenne in the mid-1980s, the era swore by a design embodied by a few media personalities. In this effervescence around creators (whether designers, artists, stylists), Christian Liaigre's discretion was in contrast... This decade in search of spectacular and glamour is surprised by this refined aesthetic vocabulary which quickly imposes its radicality, its sophistication without ostentation.
Forerunner of a modernity based on the classical foundations of the history of furniture, Christian Liaigre relies on high quality craftsmanship: cabinet making, saddlery, bronze art, lacquering, ... His creations, with their sober lines and perfect proportions, appeal to a clientele that intends to cultivate a contemporary art of living without renouncing the qualitative image of a French furniture tradition.
Inventor of a "style without style effect", Christian Liaigre has created an identifiable vocabulary that reveals his search for balance as well as his obsession for perfection. His origins (he was born in La Rochelle), his background (he studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and then at the Arts Décoratifs), and his passion for horseback riding and the equestrian world are reflected in a simple style that focuses on the essential and banishes all excess.
The success of his first furniture pieces naturally led him to interior design. Surrounded by the best craftsmen, he revives the French tradition of the decorator, signing places that are characterized by a style that is both contemporary and perennial, as well as by an obvious attention to well-being. A privileged interlocutor of major private clients, his rare public projects in the 1990s, such as the Hôtel de Montalembert in Paris (1990) and the Mercer Hotel in New York (1997), contributed to his reputation on both sides of the Atlantic. With the help of his team, Christian Liaigre carries out his projects in the four corners of the world, from apartments to vacation homes, from offices to private jet cabins and yachts. In the space of three decades, he has achieved an extraordinary career, cultivating a luxury made in France based on exceptional know-how, surrounding himself with talent that he puts to work on prestigious projects through which his style shines, becoming a signature as desirable as it is coveted.
In 2009, anxious to perpetuate his work, Christian Liaigre set up a creative and managerial transition, then in 2014 he promoted a new artistic direction within his historical team to succeed him before leaving the house in 2016. Under the direction of Frauke Meyer since that date, the studio and the various teams of Liaigre perpetuate the initial spirit while opening up to new creative horizons. In 2018, Liaigre invests in the Parisian right bank and inaugurates its address of world reference on the very prestigious faubourg saint Honoré. This four-level showroom, designed as a dynamic and inspiring place to live, offers an immersion into the world of a signature brand whose creations have marked the last forty years. In May 2020, "Liaigre Création", the fourth monograph devoted to the House, was published by Rizzoli New York.
