Jason Matthew Lee and Digital Images

11 May 2021

PIASA will be holding a (Very) Contemporary Art auction on Wednesday, May 12th at 6pm, featuring 108 lots. On this occasion, a creation by the artist Jason Matthew Lee will be presented to collectors.

as a photographer and attracted by digital images, Jason Matthew Lee was noticed at a very young age for his installations of public telephones, symbols of communication that have become obsolete, reappropriated and customized by the artist, just like the work Radical transparency, 2017 presented here. His research also focuses on the world of the Internet, inspired for example by the images used as tests on the first computers, or by his interest in the figure of the hacker. His sensitivity to photography and computers has led him to create an innovative printing process that allows him to reproduce the same scans of comics, mass media or art book pages on canvas in the same way that traditional painters could layer paint.

His work has already been exhibited widely: Tragic Venus, CELESTE-Data Center Marilyn, Champs-Sur-Marne, 2017; Bruteforcephfreak, Johann Bergrren Gallery, Malmö, 2015; GLOBALHELL, Crèvecoeur, Paris, 2015; Too Many Memories, Bedstuy Love Affair, Brooklyn, 2014
