Piasa auction house organises the 14th of april a sale dedicated to the work of Ivan Da Silva-Bruhns.
From Brazilian parents, Ivan Da Silva-Bruhns (1881-1980) decided to become a painter after studying biology and medicine. He trained on his own, and he managed to exhibit his first works at the Salon des Indépendants in 1911, then at the Salon d'Automne in 1913.

Influenced by cubism and more particularly by Picasso, he adopted intertwined forms supported by simple motifs which led him to the practice of tapestry in which he became a major player. As such, he participated in numerous exhibitions in France and abroad, and carried out several carpet commissions for embassies, national palaces and large liners. However, after the Second World War, Ivan Da Silva Bruhns abandoned tapestry to return to painting. He continued to apply the principles he had already followed and proposed very geometric works with very dense colors.

The Cubist influence is perceptible through the representation of anthropomorphic figures from his imagination, the female and male masks, and strictly graphic compositions or even mathematical. This set of twenty-four paintings, which crosses his entire artistic career, from 1927 to 1974, is a wonderful tribute to this creator who is known, most of the time, only by his exceptional production of carpets.
