As part of the sale dedicated to Scandinavian design on October 10, 2019, PIASA auction house offers to the modern furniture’s collectors a piece realized by between Margaret Nordman and Hannes Autere (1888-1967).
Hannes Autere began studying at the Aalto Graduate School of Art, Design and Architecture in Helsinki (1909-1912) before becoming, from 1913, the assistant to the author of the decoration of the Alfred Kordelin Chapel in Rauma in western Finland: the sculptor Gunnar Finne (1886-1952).

The young man then embarks on the realization of watercolors. This cabinet-secretary is offered for sale with an estimate of between 25,000 and 35,000 euros. It is emblematic of the work of this artist, awarded in 1937 a gold medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition.
Whether on altarpieces or altars of churches, her technique animates surfaces decorated with low and medium reliefs. In painting or sculpture, iconography refers to popular and rural themes. The scene depicted on this piece of furniture made in 1936 takes place in a forest which, thanks to a great mastery of the effects of depth, seems to extend to far away.
In the foreground, under the gaze of the other characters, a man - balancing on a floating tree trunk - takes out a child who has fallen into the water, using a long stick. This vacation is a reflection of the spirit of an auction house that, year after year, solidifies its legitimacy in the Scandinavian design market.
