Founder of the magazine Domus and a key player in the Milan Triennial, the Italian designer and architect Gio Ponti has been considered, since the late 1930s, as one of the most emblematic figures of Italian modernity. Through its sessions dedicated to Italian design, PIASA pays tribute to the genius of this designer by regularly offering his furniture to collectors.
Gio Ponti's studies at the Milan Polytechnic were interrupted by the outbreak of the First World War. Once the armistice was signed, he resumed his training, from which he graduated in 1921. He then met Emilio Lancia and Mino Fiocchi with whom he would partner to create an architectural firm.

Paire de fauteuils
Result : 65000 €
Appointed artistic director of one of Italy's leading porcelain manufacturers, Gio Ponti completely renews the iconographic repertoire by rationalizing the production system of the pieces, while maintaining their high quality of execution. His first pieces were presented at the first Biennale des arts décoratifs de Monza in 1923 and then in 1925 at the Exposition internationale des Arts décoratifs where he received the grand prix de céramique.
Gio Ponti promotes Italian creation in all its forms. From a simple participant, he became a member of the steering committee of the Monza Biennales in 1927, where he defended the rapprochement between crafts and industry.

Table basse
Résultat : 28600 €
Throughout his career, he was keen to select materials capable of diversifying the rendering of textures and colours. The wall chest of drawers that left his studio in 1953 was edited by Giordano Chiesa. The façade is the scene of a geometric deployment that easily conceals the functionality of the drawer mechanism. This mixture between wood and brass is also found in this coffee table published in 1956 by Vittorio Bega Arredamenti, it reflects the sobriety of the author's aesthetics.
A strong advocate of a renewal for Italian design in the post-war context, he was the author of a work presented in 1950 as part of the "Italy at Work" exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum. It was celebrated in 2018 at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
