On Thursday September 30th, PIASA is organising an auction dedicated to French design produced between the two world wars and the 1970s.
This first autumn sale devoted to French design is presented as a stroll through the extraordinary creativity of French furniture production in the mid-20th century.
The stars of design at the time are perfectly represented with important sets of pieces. Among the pieces on display are a bookcase with blocks by Charlotte Perriand, a set of chairs by Jean Prouvé, including a rare variant with aluminium back and seat, and a set of pieces designed by Pierre Jeanneret for Chandigarh.
In the same post-war period, designers such as Pierre Guariche, Mathieu Matégot, Joseph-André Motte... are present with several pieces, alongside more confidential but now highly sought-after productions, such as those by Boris Jean Lacroix, Colette Gueden or Adrien Audoux and Frida Minnet. In the same spirit of rediscovery, the catalogue also displays several anonymous creations that highlight above all the remarkable mastery of form and execution. Finally, ceramics, which was very creative during this period, as the first part of the sale dedicated to the Vallauris scene attests, is well represented in the catalogue, with several creations by Jean Besnard, Jacques Blin, Georges Jouve and Jacques and Dani Ruelland.
