On Wednesday, March 20, PIASA is organizing a sale dedicated to French Design. For the first sale of 2024 entirely devoted to this specialty, PIASA offers a cross-disciplinary look at national creation, from the 20s to the 70s, through a rigorous selection of just over 200 lots, creating in a deliberately non-chronological narrative imaginary dialogues between major artists with varied techniques and universes.

Thus, a roll of untouched fabric by Hélène Henry meets a rare "Aztec" mirror by Lina Vautrin; a set of furniture by Jean-Michel Frank from private Argentine collections is embellished with colorful ceramics by the Ruellands; a pair of voluptuous silver-wood bergères by André Groult cohabits with a coffee table by the mythical designer Eyre de Lanux, presented at the UAM exhibition in 1930....

Other highlights of the sale include an exceptional suite of "standard" chairs by Jean Prouvé from the artist's own collection, in their original paint; a daybed by Jean Royère from a major Lebanese collection; a coffee table with a "barrettes" motif by Georges Jouve.... There are also separate chapters on the furniture created by Pierre Jeanneret for the Indian city of Chandigarh, and that created by Charlotte Perriand for the Les Arcs assembly residences, as well as selections of pieces by Mathieu Matégot, Pierre Guariche and Jacques Adnet, among many others.
