On July 8th, PIASA is organising a superb (Very) Contemporary Art auction. On this occasion, the work of Eddie Martinez will be honoured.
Eddie Martinez is a young American artist based in the Brooklyn district of New York. Inspired by contemporary American pop culture, he is above all an heir to major artistic movements such as action painting, neo-expressionism and CoBrA. His abstract canvases are characterised by their bright colours and disordered appearance, and are clearly reminiscent of Basquiat's work. Alternating between traditional and unconventional painting, he mixes oil and enamel with silk-screening, aerosol and surprising materials such as chewing gum wrappers.
Eddie Martinez's work has been featured in solo exhibitions at museums and institutions such as the Bronx Museum of the Arts and the Drawing Center in New York and the Davis Museum in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Many of his works are in public collections such as the Saatchi Collection and the Hiscox Collection in London, the Jumex Collection in Mexico City, the Marciano Collection in Los Angeles, the Morgan Library & Museum in New York and the Davis Museum.
