The Rising Figures of Lebanese Design

As part of the "From Beirut Art + Design scene" session, PIASA presents on Wednesday 30th September 2020 at 6pm, several young emerging figures of the Lebanese design scene such as Rumi Dalle, Roula Salamoun, Carol Massoud or Stéphanie Moussallem.

Rumi Dalle (Born 1989)

Simultaneously designer, artist and collector, this Lebanese winner of the Boghossian Foundation Prize never ceases to amaze with her creations, always imbued with a very special sensitivity. Committed to the preservation and transmission of traditional craftsmanship, Rumi Dalle likes to use these methods to design her installations. Fascinated by craft design that she never ceases to develop and renew it throughout her many travels.

Roula Salamoun (Born 1984)

Young Lebanese artist, Roula Salamoun studied art and architecture at the American University of Beirut and then at Columbia University. She then worked with Bernard Khoury before founding her own studio in 2017. Constantly mixing design and architecture, the artist enjoys experimenting with all the possible alternatives of the same material. Her recognized work has been exhibited at the House of Today Biennale in Beirut, the Venice Biennale of Architecture and Studio X in New York.

Khaled El Mays (Born 1986)

Born in Lebanon, Khaled El Mays received a diploma in architecture from the American University of Beirut and an MFA in digital arts from the Pratt Institute in New York. Somewhere between multiplicity and repetition, his work is a play on the notion of balance. In 2013, the designer designed his first collection "Rhizomes" and founded the Khaled El Mays studio, a multidisciplinary studio focusing on furniture, interior design and graphic design. He is represented, among others, by the Nilufar gallery in Milan. Ethical and sustainable, the manufacturing process is carried out by local craftsmen in the Bekaa Valley in eastern Lebanon. Their noble materials come from the best suppliers on the market. In parallel with the creation, Khaled el Mays gives lectures on design.

Stéphanie Moussallem (Born 1987)

Graduated from the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts of Beirut in 2011, Stéphanie Moussallem understands design as a means to make everyday life easier. It appears more as a genuine way of thinking than a mere profession. In 2015, she launches "Stéphanie Moussallem Design Studio" and offers collector's furniture and top-of-the-range products. The pieces that come out of her studio are generally hand-made and feature luxurious finishes and details. From Paris to Milan, most of the top design venues regularly exhibit the fruit of her work.
