PIASA begins its 2022 auction calendar on Wednesday, January 19th, 2022 in Brussels with an auction dedicated to 20th century design. With 266 lots, the auction catalogue features a wide range of furniture (seats, tables, lighting, accessories) by the greatest names in American, Belgian, Brazilian, French, Italian and Scandinavian design.
PIASA is glad to start the year 2022, and its Design season, with a prestigious auction at the Patinoire Royale in Brussels - Galerie Valérie Bach. This session perfectly illustrates the trends and periods, from the 1930s to the 1960s, that the auction house is keen to promote on the market throughout the year.
Several remarkable pieces are on display, such as a unique pequi wood table by Brazilian designer José Zanine Caldas, pieces by Belgian designers Ado Chale and Jules Wabbes, and a whole series designed by Italian designer Angelo Mangiarotti. The selection also includes rugs by the American artist Alexander Calder, one of which was made by the Aubusson tapestry, lighting fixtures by the Finnish artist Paavo Tynell, including a floor lamp designed for the Aulanko Hotel in Finland, and special commissions (tables, consoles, etc.) by the American George Nakamoto. Last but not least, there is a very fine collection of chairs, stools, tables and benches by Pierre Jeanneret from the Chandigarh furniture collection.
