On October 1st, PIASA, in collaboration with expert and curator Pénélope Blanckaert, is organising for the first time a clothing and fashion accessories auction coming from the private collection of Mr R.
This autumn season is particularly eventful for PIASA, which is offering a number of unusual auctions. This fashion sale, for example, is made up of clothes, shoes, handbags and other accessories that a Parisian couturier - Monsieur R - has collected according to his whim.
While some pieces are historical (Grès draped dress, Comme des Garçons "Bump" dress, Vivienne Westwood boots), others are emblematic of a decade or a designer (Chanel suit, Helmut Lang dress, Courrèges and Prada coats, Tokio Kumagaï shoes...). Others are the result of collaborations (Alaïa x Tati bag, Lady Dior x Morgane Tschiember bag...) while some allow us to discover or rediscover a few designers who have fallen off the media radar (Xuly Bët, Herbert Levine, Romeo Gigli, Roberta di Camerino...). More than just a collection for an enlightened aesthete, this ensemble has constituted a real working base for this designer whose approach puts the notion of recycling at the forefront. Each object was acquired because of certain details related to the design, the manufacture or the materials used. Fashion is rightly considered here as a practice in its own right and the English terminology "Fashion Design" fully justifies it. The sometimes experimental nature of this activity is undoubtedly the common denominator of all the creations in this incredible cabinet of curiosities which revisits, obviously in a subjective manner, the history of fashion over the past half-century.
The sales expert, Pénélope Blanckaert, will be working regularly with PIASA to develop its luxury division, alongside Véronique Tajan.
