PIASA is organizing a (Very) Contemporary art auction on Wednesday May 12th 2021. This sale will bring together a hundred works from a private Belgian collector, including a screen by the Claire Fontaine collective.
Claire Fontaine is a Paris-based neo-conceptual collective founded in 2004, which presents itself as "artist-made", creating sculptures, paintings, texts texts, videos and installations. Claire Fontaine appropriates strong symbols from Western popular and artistic culture, starting with her name, a nod to the famous name, a nod to the famous French stationery brand, but also to the no less famous work of Marcel Duchamp, Fountain, 1917. The artist thus questions the world and the world of art in particular, appealing to the political sensitivity of the viewer with poetry and much irony.
Claire Fontaine's works have been the subject of numerous solo and group exhibitions in important public and private institutions around the world such as the Tate Britain, London, New Museum, New York, Castello di Rivoli, Aspen Art Museum, Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA), KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin, Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt, Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, Moscow, Whitechapel Gallery, London, Museo d'Arte Contemporanea di Roma (MACRO), The Jewish Museum, New York, Museo Jumex, Mexico, Tai Kwun, Hong Kong.
