After the first four successful auctions organized at La Patinoire Royale (the Royal Ice Rink) Galerie Valérie Bach, in Brussels in 2018 and 2019, PIASA will once again present on Wednesday, January 20th, 2020 a selection exclusively dedicated to the work of Christian Astuguevieille.

"For my part, I would affirm that he is above all a magician. The advantage of a magician is that he can enchant the world from anything and everything, and that's what this artist does, who is constantly escaping the drawers of our categories. Some know Christian Astuguevieille through his jewels, his perfumes and his furniture. Others -or the same ones- admire his sculptures and drawings, his paintings and textiles, dream with him of an imaginary world populated with objects and strange female deities that surround a solitary warrior.
With this exhibition, he invites us to share his intimacy, that of a house he lived in for a long time in the Basque Country. Yes, inhabited in all senses of the word and with all the senses that this brilliant creator sought. In addition to his paintings, we find there the traces of this imaginary civilization conceived in the 1970s where it was necessary to learn new languages. To populate this kingdom, Christian Astuguevieille designed helmets and ceremonial ornaments decorated with cords and strings, a technique that also inspired the furniture in his beautiful house. A magician, then! And a creator whose busy schedule nevertheless allows him to gracefully maintain a remarkable availability and calm.
