French modern ceramic - Pascal Marziano collection

On Wednesday, April 13, PIASA is organising a sale of French modern ceramics exclusively composed of pieces from the Pascal Marziano collection.

With 176 lots, this sale offers a unique look at ceramic production in France between the 1950s and 1970s. A passionate collector of ceramic art, Pascal Marziano has assembled one of the most remarkable collections of French ceramics, including works by Georges Jouve, Pol Chambost, Jacques & Dani Ruelland, Suzanne Ramié (Atelier Madoura), Roger Capron and others.

Those who have had the chance to visit Pascal Marziano can appreciate how this collector has taken his passion for ceramics to the extreme. Every room in his house is literally filled with pieces - design objects and sculptures - all of which demonstrate great virtuosity in working with the material and shaping it. As he likes to call himself, Pascal Marziano is a true "ceramics addict" - he is also a professional philatelist - who was seduced, a little more than ten years ago, by this expression that is both craft and artistic. While leafing through books on the artist Hang Hartung, whose work he loved, he discovered the German artist's interest in ceramics, which aroused his curiosity. This was the beginning of an adventure that quickly developed into a collection whose choice of acquisitions was guided primarily by his own vision. With this in mind, he concentrated on the production of the French scene, particularly in the south of France, from the immediate post-war period to the 1970s.
The catalogue of this sale includes an important group of pieces by the couple Jacques and Dani Ruelland, creations by Georges Jouve, Pol Chambost, Suzanne Ramié for the Atelier Madoura, Roger Capron, as well as more confidential pieces by lesser-known but equally talented designers in the eyes of Pascal Marziano.

On Saturday 9 April 2022, from 2:00 to 6:00 pm, during the exhibition-sale, PIASA will welcome Christine Lavenu, Philippe Chambost, Pascal Marziano and Arnaud Serpollet for a presentation and signing of their respective books: "Jacques Blin, Céramiste & Porteur d'Histoires" and "1947-2017 - 70 years of French ceramic expression".
