As part of the sale "Scandinavian Selected Design" on October 10, 2019, the auction house PIASA presents two pieces made by the Danish designer Børge Mogensen (1914-1972)
At the Danish School of Arts and Craft, opposite neighbouring Sweden, between the Baltic and North Seas, he began his studies in 1936. Børge Mogensen continued his training to become familiar with other disciplines. at the School of Architecture of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts where he graduated in 1942.
It is alongside designer Kaare Klint (1888-1954) that he began his career. In this studio, among the most prominent in the immediate aftermath of the war, he will embark on the production of classic furniture that manages to combine simplicity and functionalism.
Extending Klint's innovative studies on the influence of size and proportion of objects, Børge Mogensen produced "Boligens Bygg Eskabe" in 1954, integrated storage systems. Between 1955 and 1967, he worked on the "Øresund" shelving series which illustrates the designer's reflections on ergonomics in modern homes.

The pair of libraries offered for sale by PIASA was made in 1950. It bears the monogram of the publisher C. M. Madsen. Its manufacture has been guided by the sobriety of its geometric lines.
Also manufactured in 1950, the "Model 4311/12" sofa consists of an oak and brass frame to which wool and leather combine with great harmony.

Real reflections of his training as a traditional craftsman, his furniture is greatly appreciated by an audience of amateurs and collectors. In 1971, he was elected Honorary Royal Designer of Industry by the Royal Society of Arts in London.
