As part of its first session of the year dedicated to design, the auction house PIASA presents on Thursday 20 February 2020 a selection of some of the most significant designers of the second half of the 20th century. The Danish designer Børge Mogensen, who is highly sought-after at the sales regularly organised by PIASA, is represented by a table that alone expresses the singularity of his aesthetic.
Børge Mogensen began his studies in 1936 at the Danish School of Arts and Craft, located between the Baltic and the North Sea. In an effort to broaden his field of expertise, he became familiar with other disciplines. He continued his training at the School of Architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, from which he graduated in 1942. He began his career with the Danish designer Kaare Klint (1888-1954).
In this studio, one of the most prominent in the immediate post-war period, he began to produce classical furniture that managed to combine simplicity and functionalism. Continuing Klint's innovative studies on the influence of size and proportion of objects, in 1954 Børge Mogensen produced "Boligens Bygg Eskabe", integrated storage systems. Between 1955 and 1967 he worked on the "Øresund" shelving series, which illustrates the designer's thoughts on ergonomics in modern living. For him, interior architecture influences the way of life.
His furniture is a true reflection of his training as a traditional craftsman and is highly appreciated by a public of enthusiasts and collectors. In 1971, he was elected Honorary Royal Designer of Industry by the Royal Society of Arts in London.

Its highly original base is composed of eight legs that are one third the height of each other. The balance of the volumes and the fineness of the surface, which is just over 2.20 m long, make this piece of furniture very light.
