Artur Miranda & Jacques Bec: Studio OITOEMPONTO

11 December 2020

Oitoemponto, Artur Miranda and Jacques Bec, the famous Franco-Portuguese duo, is invited to Piasa where he will offer at auction, during the sale of December 16, 2020, his furniture, but even more works of art, lights and carpets. In a word his universe.

Eight o'clock sharp is the translation of their company name. Punctuality of rigour but in the cheerfulness for this Franco-Portuguese duo who travel the world to create interiors. In 1993, Artur Miranda, Portuguese, founded his house of interior architecture and furniture design after a first career in couture, following his Fashion and Design studies in Porto and a formative trip to Sweden. Two years later Jacques Bec, the Frenchman, joined him. He is a graduate of Esag Met de Penninghen, a higher school of design, graphic Art and Interior architecture in Paris. Fascinated by theatre and opera, he loves the opulence of 18th and 19th century sets and dresses like a star on Front Row (first row of a fashion show). Logically, therefore, they have a huge common dressing room in their large house near Porto.

Based in this northern Portuguese city, the duo has managed to impose their modern vision of decoration. It must be said that they complement each other perfectly, the Portuguese with his sense of colours and pure lines, the French with his French touch, his choice of antique pieces. They spend their free time searching for goods in all the countries where they travel and fill warehouses with furniture, objects and paintings that catched their eye. They also create chic furniture made to measure for their demanding clientele. Furniture not devoid of inspiration from brutal Brazilian architects or Scandinavian designers.

They know how to mix them like no one else with American pieces, neo-classical like Arbus or a touch of the fifties like Gio Ponti and contemporary creations by their friend Hervé Van der Straeten. This being said, the noble materials with a bright touch, "glossy" as they claim, are what preside over their interiors: rosewood, leather, lacquer and steel, green or brown marble, malachite, always associated with sophisticated fabrics, borrowed from an elegant wardrobe like cashmere, velvet or prints in the spirit of the times.

An X-ray of their "mood of the moment" is how they define this sale born from a meeting with Frédéric Chambre. Furniture, of course, but not only. Works of art have been included in their choice because they are essential to them. When they published their own house, they said: "In our house, the furniture will change over time according to our fads. Only the works on the walls will remain."If two portraits of César Baldaccini are facing each other at the sale, they are amused by the Screen Che, the silk used for the silkscreen print of Gavin Turk's portrait of Che!

Their subtle blend is perceptible in the eclecticism of the pieces presented. A piece of furniture by Michelucci but in a glossy finish (for which they have obtained the permission of the rightful owners), two armchairs by Gio Ponti from 1938, a ceramic coffee table by Roger Capron, a sofa by Marco Zanuzo from the 1950s covered with jungle velvet, another from the 1960s by the American Adrian Pearsall, chairs and a rare wheel table by Josef Frank, a nod to fashion with the Louis XVIstyle Elba chair for the Hotel de Crillon, the Love carpet by Robert Indiana or the kinetic plexiglass lamp by Ugo La Pietra and Gaetano Missaglia. A whole world of joy and fantasy that fans will have the opportunity to recreate in their interiors with this sale.
