PIASA is organising a sale of modern and contemporary art on Wednesday, March 16.
With 106 lots, this auction is divided into 4 sections: a selection of works from the first half of the 20th century (Fernand Léger, Jacques Majorelle...), a large group of works from the 1950s to the 1980s (Martial Raysse, Alain Jacquet...), a section dedicated to the emerging contemporary scene (Julian Opie, Mark Francis, Claire Tabouret...) and finally a section devoted to photography: Duane Michals, William Wegman...
This first auction of modern and contemporary art of the year offers a balanced view of artistic creation over the past century.
It features many French artists whose works perfectly illustrate the different artistic dynamics that have developed in France since the beginning of the 20th century, with key figures such as Jacques Majorelle, Fernand Léger, Arman, César, Alain Jacquet, Martial Raysse, Marc Devade, Robert Combas, Jean-Pierre Bertrand, Claire Tabouret or Neïl Beloufa...
Around this guiding line composed of drawings, paintings and sculptures, the catalogue also proposes a selection of pieces by renowned foreign artists (Theodoros Stamos, Julian Opie, Sven Kroner... ), some of whom have maintained close links with France, having worked and lived there (Kees van Dongen, Vera Molnár, Peter Klasen, Philolaos Tloupas, Jan Voss...) or having been particularly supported by the scene and the market (Joaquin Ferrer, James Brown, Pat Andrea...). At the end of the catalogue, a dozen photographs signed by major players in the medium (Berenice Abbott, Duane Michals, William Wegman, Peter H. Beard, Martin Parr, Lynne Cohen, etc.) are included, which will certainly appeal to amateurs of the genre.
