Modern and Contemporary Art

6 October 2023

PIASA is organizing a sale of modern and contemporary art on Wednesday, October 11.

Comprising 104 lots, this sale offers a panorama of artistic creation from the beginnings of the 20th century (Alfred Stieglitz) to the present day (Ai Weiwei, Landon Metz). It also offers a singular look at artists associated with Surrealism (Leonor Fini, Man Ray...), as well as some specific features of the French art scene of the 1950s-60s (Ecole de Nice, Affichistes, Figuration Narrative...). Finally, the selection features significant works by renowned artists such as Pavlos, Pol Bury, Yves Tanguy... as well as groups of pieces by remarkable talents to be rediscovered, such as the artist Mela Muter.

LOT N°34 Pol Bury (1922-2005)
Model for Capteurs de Ciel (La Louviere), 2004
ESTIMATE: 30000 / 40000 €

LOT N°16 Leonor Fini (1907-1998)
Sans titre, (Portrait de Horst Egon Kalinwski), circa 1961
ESTIMATE: 10000 / 15000 €

This sale is in line with PIASA's artistic continuity, i.e. regular market support for artists from the second half of the 20th century such as Pavlos, Alain Jacquet, Claude Gilli, Mimmo Rotella... For example, we are featuring several pieces by Pol Bury, who has never been seen on the market before, and who was also honored at the sale of Velma Bury's personal collection last June.

The selection also focuses on artists associated with Surrealism (Leonor Fini, Man Ray, Yves Tanguy, Salvador Dalí...), whose artistic resonance is enjoying a tremendous revival among today's public.

In addition, the sale will focus on the work of Polish-born post-impressionist artist Mela Muter, a figure of the Paris School, through four canvases - one landscape and three portraits - emblematic of her work.

Last but not least, photography enthusiasts will appreciate this set of eight Black & White prints (Alfred Stieglitz, André Kertész...) from a private collection.

LOT N°20 Man Ray (1890-1976)
Les trois nus, 1971
ESTIMATE: 10000 / 15000 €
