On Wednesday, March 15th, PIASA is holding an auction for modern and contemporary art.
This upcoming auction dedicated to modern and contemporary art remains faithful to the often daring aesthetic choices we make here at PIASA. In particular, this sale offers a panorama of over a century of creation, through an approach that moves away from the major canonical figures to the benefit of artists whose work is rediscovered in its full scope.
Jean Hélion (1904-1987)

The selection is based on several private collections, allowing us to get in tune with coherent bodies of work by artists including André Masson, Serge Charchoune, Jean Hélion, Roberto Matta, Alfred Réth, Jacques Germain, Maryan, Jacques Villeglé, and more. The authors of these "funds", such as art critic Bertrand Lamarche-Vadel, have very often accompanied these artists over several years of production and have been guided by this aesthetic "closeness" to compose these sets.

The sale is also punctuated by several fit-for-a-museum pieces, such as this oil on canvas by Olivier Debré (lot 54), this self-portrait by Zoran Music (lot 60), this oil pastel by Mario Merz (lot 73), this acrylic on aluminum by Imi Knoebel (lot 75), or this painting from the "Babies" series by the artist Dado (lot 100).
The last part of the session highlights several pieces by leading contemporary artists, but whose rarity on the market makes them all the more interesting: a ceramic composition by Invader (lot 160), a "phantasmagorical" image by Alain Bublex (lot 180), a set of four chromogenic prints by Pierre Huyghe (lot 183), and a photograph by Nan Goldin (lot 184).
