Sentimental archaeology of A.M. - Contemporary Art

15 September 2021

On September 23rd, PIASA is holding a Contemporary Art auction featuring works from a French private collection.

This first Contemporary Art auction of the fall season portrays a French collector curious about the multiplicity of artistic expressions of the past half-century. Far from being thematically focused, this collection is also the fruit of the links that A.M. has forged with artists. The catalogue includes around one hundred artists, from all origins, of various generations, internationally renowned or, on the contrary, much more confidential, and from whom the vast majority of the works were acquired.

Among the lots are several pieces by French artists such as Xavier Veilhan, Franck Scurti and Fabrice Hyber, some of which are truly museum pieces.
There was also a definite interest in the photographic medium, with photographs by William Eggleston, Peter Beard, Luigi Ghirri, David Goldblatt, Massimo Vitali, Sophie Ristelhueber, etc. In another, much more unexpected register, a dozen lots offered a look at the poetry of Indian Tantric art, which A.M. has been fascinated by for several years.
Finally, in the midst of this representation of the art scene of the last few decades, we find artists who are now unavoidable, such as Marcel Duchamp, Robert Filliou, John Giorno, Andy Warhol, Alighiero Boetti, Louise Bourgeois... who are for A.M. above all linked to memorable, almost sentimental anecdotes.
