In partnership with the Finnish auction house Annmaris, PIASA is organizing a new auction dedicated to 20th-century Finnish design on Wednesday September 13. Featuring 176 lots, the auction offers a remarkable overview of Finnish furniture production from the 1920s to the 1970s, including a fine collection by Alvar Aalto and Finmar, an important collection of lighting by Paavo Tynell and an exceptional selection of ceramics by Birger Kaipiainen. Also on display are pieces by major names such as Tapio Wirkkala, Ilmari Tapiovaara, Eero Aarnio and Olof Ottelin.
For this first auction of the second semester of 2023, PIASA is renewing its partnership with the Finnish auction house Annmaris, with whom it has created this catalog.
Based in Tampere for thirty years now, this family-run business is considered one of the undisputed experts in Scandinavian design, and of course Finnish design.
This session will feature pieces that are relatively rare on the international Finnish design market, alongside pieces by major names such as Alvar Aalto, Lisa Johansson-Pape, Märta Blomstedt, Ilmari Tapiovaara, Gunilla Jung and Itsu.
Last but not least, fans of designer Paavo Tynell will be delighted by the sale of no fewer than 87 luminaires - both major pieces and special commissions.
