In 1950, when Le Corbusier was chosen as the advisor of Punjab government to build Chandigarh, he asked Pierre Jeanneret to assist him in this project. The two architects wanted to create in Chandigarh an ideal place where beauty can be used by the largest number of person. Also, faced with the challenge of creating mass-produced furniture on a large scale, a special design office is set up for this purpose within the Chandigarh Architects agency, which Pierre Jeanneret managed for fifteen years.

Deeply inspired and influenced by Indian culture, Pierre Jeanneret created each piece of design in harmony with the Indian people and their civilization. He chose to use traditional materials used in crafts such as bamboo, mango wood, cotton, cane or sissou (Indian rosewood). By adopting these regional materials, Pierre Jeanneret is ensures that the furniture will withstand the region's changing weather conditions.
One of his most important programs is the University of Chandigarh for which he realizes both architectural plans and furniture allowing him to think the links between design and architecture in their entirety. In fact, the university campus is the largest furniture order in Chandigarh. Several pieces imagined for this place will be presented at the sale, the coffee table with compass stand Model PJ-TB-05-A, the table Model PJ-TA-01-A or the writing chair Model PJ-SI-26-C.

Le Corbusier also asks Jeanneret to design some of the furniture for the High Court of Justice. The principle whereby each piece must be adapted to a specific place and use, is once again applied with rigor ; armchairs with high backs for judges, seats and comfortable sofas for visitors, each line is symbolic.
Moreover, the importance of the function is highlighted by the designers who choose to dramatize certain elements of the furniture, notably the seats and desks, exacerbating the proportions. Two important pieces by Pierre Jeanneret are created for this place : the Public Bench PJ-SI-37-B and the Committee Chair PJ-SI-30-D.
