  • Scandinavian purity and sobriety best define the work of Timo Sarpaneva, born in 1926 Finland to a family of weavers and blacksmiths. His upbringing led him naturally to an early vocation as a craftsman, while his sensitivity for beauty, skill and innovation drove him just as naturally to study design at the Institute for Industrial Arts in Helsinki. Immediately following his graduation, he is hired as a designer by the historical Iittala glassware company.

  • Father of the “Danish modern” style, Finn Juhl (1912-1989) designed in one day in 1949 one of his most iconic pieces: the Chieftain chair. Made in collaboration with the cabinetmaker Niels Vodder, it was originally created in teak and leather; its individual components are symbols of traditional objects, particularly native American: the wide armrests evoke horse saddles, the framework of the backrest bows, and the backrest itself both an Amerindian headdress and a shield.

  • Designer, architect, theoretician and creator, Carlo Scarpa is an essential figure of 20th century art, to the likeness of Frank Lloyd Wright or Le Corbusier. Ripe with honors and awards from around the world, his architectural creations have entered the public psyche.

  • The renowned Daum factory, showcasing French expertise, has maintained the excellence of its artistic creativity and technical qualities for 140 years. Created in 1878 by Jean Daum in Nancy and developed by his sons Auguste and Antonin Daum, the crystal manufacturing company has constantly evolved and profoundly influenced glassware and decorative arts in the 20th century.
