Textile Art | June 11, 2015

On 11 June 2015 PIASA will stage a novel sale devoted to the art of textiles  in all their forms.

The auction of Textile Art will feature around a hundred works by artists whose  approach is located at the crossrods of sculpture and applied art, seeking to redefine  techniques and aesthetics.

Exhibitions like Decorumat the Paris Musée d’Art Moderne in 2013 and Fiber Art, currently touring the United States (ICA in Boston, Wexner Center for the Arts  in Columbus, Iowa Western Art Center…), reflect a growing interest in the use of  textiles in art: the Espace Louis Vuitton in Paris is currently staging an exhibition  about the use of Thread in art.

‘Abandoning the image to an aesthetic concept based solely on material – whether  woven or not – amounts to a profound redefining of textile art, one that derives  from the deconstruction of techniques and language’ writes Danièle Molinari in  the Decorumexhibition catalogue.
